Welcome to Kinder Connect. My name is Suzanne Awtrey and I am a kindergarten teacher in Central Unified School District in Fresno, California. I am committed to sharing engaging practices and collaborating with other teachers. I have been teaching grades K-3 for 23 years and am more excited about teaching than ever due to the integration of technology into my classroom. I am committed to what I am passionate about which are: God, my husband, my 4 children along with extended family and friends. In my free time I love to play tennis, snow ski and enjoy the beautiful outdoors near our California home. When we're not working, my husband and I spend rich time at home in the kitchen preparing delicious food together to serve our family and friends. I am grateful to have family and friends to love along with a career teaching children. Connecting with others through sharing is a theme that permeates both my personal and professional life.
About that picture on my header? Those are my awesome SuperKinders and their High School Buddies. The pic was taken on the culmination of our first year of "Google Hangouts with Our High School Buddies". There are many happy and some sad faces since it was our final face-to-face meeting. Every Tuesday we looked forward to hanging out with our high school buddies and bonding over great books. First the high schooler would read to us, then one excited kindie would read aloud to the high schooler. For a 5 year old, this required a lot of practice on fluency and accuracy in order to be our best for our important audience...talk about purpose!
